    The gospel is an amazing thing, saving us from so much. One of the things that it saves us from is finding self worth in things other than Jesus. This is a pretty hard application. Looking around at other people, and within myself, I see that Christians struggle with the application of getting our worth from Christ.
    We keep wanting to put our worth in almost everything else, and degrade ourselves when we see someone who is better at the category we have chosen to put our worth in. When I see people doing this it breaks my heart. I just want to reinforce into their mind that they are good/pretty/smart/etc. at whatever they have chosen to find worth in. Is that really the best thing to do? If someone finds worth in feeling beautiful (or lack of worth for not feeling beautiful), is it really better to affirm that by saying, "No, you are beautiful," or is something else better? I mean I think it's easier to reaffirm the person in their chosen worth area.
    What we really need to do is challenge why that set thing has worth and point to the fact that whatever it is doesn't matter anymore. We have been redeemed from trying to be smart/athletic/pretty/ect. Our worth comes from Christ now. We have been freed from those things. But is it really that easy? I'm sure that releasing these scales of worth is one of the hardest things to do, because even if we let go of them, people still use these scales. We must grasp on firmly to what Galatians 1:10 says when this happens to us, "Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ."
    That is pretty drastic. Paul is pretty much saying that we need to stop trying to please men, and being a servant to their views on worth. We are servants of Christ, and we are trying to win His approval and to please Him. It's just really hard to remove ourselves (myself) from this society where worth is put on these things that don't matter in 10 years or especially in eternity. We need to focus and pray God changes our hearts from being a slave to this mentality and to be freed from it in HIm.
