So Denver seems like a pretty cool city, one I may want to live in, and one that could make some sense for me to move to after I graduate from USC in 2009. U of Denver has a program that is a lot like USC does. You graduate with an undergraduate degree, and get into this program that certifies you to teach in the state (in this case Colorado instead of SC). It is completed in 9 months (not 12 like USC's), but I don't get a Masters initially. I have to take 4 more classes (offered at night, so I can take them while teaching) to get my Masters Degree. If I ever want to leave Colorado, 40 states are involved in letting their credentials transfer from state to state, I just need to find the list of states that are included.
I mentioned, somewhat in jest and somewhat serious, to a friend Dodds about trying to move out west to a city and getting jobs and living life. He talked to me yesterday over Vid Chat (he is obsessed) and mentioned he is taking this seriously and may skip grad school to do it, but may try to get a year or two of work experience before we go out there. That is a factor of when I would go out there as well, and if I do the program at USC or at U of Denver. He graduates in May, so if he wants one year of experience then I could go right after I graduate and do the U of Denver program, if in two years then after I get my Masters in Teaching at USC.
I've always wanted to live in a big city and move around some. This could be my chance. I hope that God lets me know what to do about it. I think I'd like it a lot. It would suck to leave all of my friends behind, but after we all graduate college we are all going different directions anyway, so that wouldn't stop me too much. The hardest thing would be leaving my family and Midtown behind. That would be weird...
Looking at college stuff I could (and am now actively trying to graduate in December 2008). One of my friends also showed me a program called Teach for America that trains me, then places me in a school where I could make a difference. Coincidently they have schools in Denver that I could teach at. Depending on the cost of living and what not they could even give me a grant of $1000 to $6000 to live off of til I get my first pay check. That and they help pay for Graduate school when I go, as well as have partnerships. This way I could be a certified teacher, but could still get a Masters in something other than Education...
